Rose’s Little Writing Group

This little group is a plan I’ve had bouncing around for too long, thwarted by imposter syndrome and intrusive thoughts. But, last month I joined the f*ck it club and ‘pressed go’.

The aim is to take a break from our works in progress, and have a bit of fun doing all the craft things we know we need to be practicing, but never have time for. It’s short and sweet, and designed to stand alone, or be an off-ramp into working on your w.i.p. The class is structured to get us out of our lovely heads and on the page, no judgement, no over-thinking.

Our first week was all about practicing how Character POV can filter scenes, descriptions, and setting. The feedback has all been so, so positive. Of course November decided to be the longest month in recorded history, and imposter syndrome is back. But it’s all planned and ready to go, and a little part of me knows it’s going to be a hit too, because it’s fun, and us writers bang our heads on walls too much. Most of all, it’s community, and this work is so time consuming that we often sacrifice that. This is a way to both further craft and hang out.
